Hands off the wall until the discard is released.
Only draw when it is your turn. Draw from the live wall, not the dead wall, unless you are taking a kong supplement.
Do not reach early while the previous player is still deciding or has not clearly discarded. Other players may still have the right to call. The correct amount of time to wait is ultimately subjective and depends on the pace of play at your mahjong table.
