Fan is hand value
Fan is the scoring value attached to patterns in your winning hand. Some patterns are simple and common; others are rare and valuable.
Fan is not the same as points earned. First the table counts fan, then the scoring table converts that fan value into points. In addition to requiring a minimum fan, there is also typically a maximum fan you can earn per hand.
